OffGridSkills exists because the internet is full of off-grid advice — and most of it is either recycled listicles with no numbers, or scattered forum threads that contradict each other. We wanted something different: a single, structured place where you learn the skills in the right order, with tools that do the math and sources you can check.
What we believe
- Skills before products. The right answer to "what should I buy?" is almost always "learn the skill first, then you'll know."
- Measure, don't guess. Every calculator on this site exists because guessing sizes leads to expensive mistakes.
- Honesty about danger. Electricity, fire and water can hurt you. We'd rather you learn slowly and safely than fast and injured.
- Originality over volume. Six genuinely useful guides beat sixty pages of filler.
Our methodology
- Research against authoritative sources — national electrical codes, the World Health Organization, national meteorological services, and national food-safety authorities, among others.
- Publish the math. Every calculator documents its formulas and assumptions in plain language, so you can verify rather than trust.
- Flag the limits. We mark every task DIY / Skilled / Professional and point to codes and permits — see our safety policy.
- Keep it practical. If a tip doesn't help someone actually do the thing, we cut it.
